Arirang Culture - My Little Kitchen episodes 5-9

Here are the rest of the episodes in the series, which as far as I know is finished, if there are more episodes later then I will publish them.

Episode 5 Part 1 Haemul Jeon (Seafood Pancake) with Chef Lee Jin-ho.

I normally use clam and oysters instead, no chili peppers 'cause Jasmine wouldn't eat it. I think this one might be a little chew from the squid.

Part 2 Bossam (Boiled Pork) with Chef Seri.

Hmmm. I have used green tea for the pork, but I've never used coffee. I wonder if it changes the flavor, but I don't think I'd want to use it because of the caffeine. Bossam is also good wrapped in freshly made kimchi.

Episode 6 Part 1 Gaematsal Milssam (Crab Stick Rolls) with Chef Lee Jin-ho.

I don't know about this one, doesn't seem Korean at all.

Part 2 Samgyetang (Ginseng Chicken Soup) with Chef Seri

Not quite the way that I was taught to make it by my Mom, but I'm sure it tastes just as good. Koreans eat this a lot on hot days during the summer. It is thought of as a way to cool down.

Episode 7 Part 1 Godeungeo Jorim (Braised Mackerel) with Chef Lee Jin-ho.

My Mom often makes this dish, luckily she buys her fish already gutted and cleaned. I personally prefer the radish to the fish, the radish gets cooked until it just melts in your mouth. Also who wants to deal with all the fish bones?

Part 2 Ramen with Mushrooms with Chef Lee Jin-Ho.

I do something similar myself. What I put into the ramyeon depends on what flavor the soup base is. I normally poach the egg though, I don't think I could eat a raw egg.

Episode 8 Part 1 Baechu Gul Doenjang Muchim (Napa Cabbage and Oysters in Soybean Sauce) with Chef Lee Jin-ho.

I don't think I've ever had this or seen it before. But it'll have to wait until we move back to the US, seafood is soooo expensive in the UK.

Part 2 Jjambbong (Spicy Seafood Noodle Soup) with Chef Lee Jin-ho.

Hmmm, I'm not sure if I would ever make this since Jjambbong ramyeon is so tasty.

Episode 9 Part 1 Ojingeo Bokkeum (Spicy Stir Fried Squid)

Looks yummy.

Part 2 Janchi Guksu (Feast Noodles) with Chef Lee Jin-ho.

This looks easy, something that Jasmine might like. I miss my Mom's cooking!

Currently watching:참 좋은 시절 (Wonderful Days). Still watching this, it is supposed to be a 50 episode series.

Arirang Culture - My Little Kitchen Episodes 1-4

I believe that this series is only nine episodes long, so I will post four of the episodes here and the remaining five on a different post. There are two parts to each episode.

Episode 1 Part 1 Prawn and Beef Japchae with Chef Lee Jin-ho.

Honestly I haven't tried to make this, mostly because it just seems wrong to not make japchae with more vegetables, at least the more traditional vegetables that my own Mom uses.

Part 2 Bulgogi Salad with Chef Seri.

I think I will make this one day, but I'd just use my own marinade for the beef.

Episode 2 Part 1 Ungjung Tteokbokki Pasta (Rice Cakes and Pasta with Soy Sauce) with Chef Lee Jin-ho.

I will probably never make this, but it does give me the idea to use pasta for spicy tteokbokki when I can't find rice cakes, I wonder if it will be delicious?

Part 2 Caramel Galbijjim (Beef Short Ribs) with Chef Seri.

I think I would really like making this, but it might have to wait until we move back to the US, I don't have my pressure cooker with us here, and I can't see buying a big pot just to make one dinner.

Episode 3 Part 1 Golbaengi Bibimguksu (Spicy Whelks with Noodles) with Chef Lee Jin-ho.

I think this is the first recipe from Chef Lee that I have liked the look of, I wonder if it is because I like more traditional dishes?

Part 2 Samgyeopsal Gui (Pork Belly with Apple) with Chef Seri.

This reminds me of cooking pork roast. I don't know if I would like eating it this away, since I like the traditional way of eating samgyeopsal so much. I would have to leave the pine nuts out, so Jasmine could try it. I think the way of cooking the pork maybe healthier than the traditional way, but I'm not sure about the sweet apples in the wrap.

Episode 4 Part 1 Jangeo Gui (Grilled Eel) with Chef Lee Jin-ho.

The sauce looks so yummy. I wonder if I could use it on some other type of meat, since I have no idea where to get eel here.

Part 2 Dakgalbi (Stir-fried Spicy Chicken) with Chef Seri.

Hmmm. I don't see the point of adding the rosemary, I think the flavor would be wiped out by the gochujang.

5 June wants

1.

I'm getting ready for a new job that I start in August. Since some of the ingredients I'll be working with stain all of my clothes are black.

2.

I've been diagnosed with planter fasciitis, so I'm not supposed to stand or walk a lot, but that is impossible. I got this brand recommended to me by a nurse, they are pricey, and kind of ugly, but they are supposed to be good.

3.

Need some extra cushion for the abused feet.

4.

We won't be serving sushi, I just like how the knife looks.

5.

A nice apron, probably won't need it with all the other chefs clothes, but maybe for home.

Currently watching: Wonderful Days 참 좋은 시절 . So far it is a great drama, but only 16 episodes are out, it is supposed to be 50 episodes, so I don't know how it'll end up.

Currently reading: Hopefully I'll be reading something good when this actually gets posted.

Books I read in May

Heartless (Parasol Protectorate Series Book 4) by Gail Carriger
Lovely reread. Biffy and Lord Akeldama always make me sad.

Timeless (Parasol Protectorate Book 5) by Gail Carriger
I noticed an "othering" of the Egyptian people that was disturbing this time around. I wonder if this will work itself out in the upcoming Prudence (The Custard Protocol Book 1), that is to be released next March.

Requiem for Blood by Alexandra Hope
This story was a jumbled up mess. The beginning was so confusing. All I got was there was a colony of home-schooled wanna-be vamps who tried to survive on blood alone. The book was a free kindle, but it is no longer available as a kindle at all. I think I only finished about 12% of the book before giving up on the mess. This is the book that I had to take a break from, twice, and reread all the Gail Carriger books that I own.

Glimpse (The Retroact Saga Book 1) by Stacey Wallace Benefiel
I only finished about 25% of this book. I felt like I was getting hit over the head with the main character's religion every few sentences. Also, after reading a quarter of the book the main story, the whole reason for the book, hadn't even begun.

Fairest (An Unfortunate Fairy Tale Book 2) by Chandra Hahn
This is the second in the series. The first, UnEnchanted, I read with my book club. The first had some really racist accents, that was toned down a little bit in this book. This book felt like nothing but a pity party for the main character.

Only 3 1/2 books this month! All I can say is that I've been busy.

Books read so far: 9 1/2 January plus 11 1/4 February plus 8 March plus 8 in April plus 3 1/2 in May equals 40 1/4 books so far this year. Work and school has slowed me down a little bit.

Currently watching:참 좋은 시절 (Wonderful Days). Still watching this, it is supposed to be a 50 episode series.
